Details commonly shown on a UAE tax invoice

UAE VAT rules set out what a tax invoice must contain. In practice a full tax invoice usually shows the following — all of which you can enter in the generator:

  • The words “Tax Invoice” clearly displayed
  • Your name, address and Tax Registration Number (TRN)
  • The recipient’s name and address, and their TRN where they are registered
  • A sequential invoice number and the date of issue
  • The date of supply, if different from the date of issue (add it in the notes or reference field)
  • A description of the goods or services, with quantity and unit price
  • The VAT rate and the amount of VAT charged, in AED
  • Any discount offered, and the total amount payable

Requirements depend on the type of supply and can change. Always confirm against the latest guidance on the Federal Tax Authority website.

Simplified tax invoices

UAE rules allow a simplified tax invoice in some situations, with fewer required details. Because the conditions are specific, the generator always produces a full layout; you can leave optional fields empty if they don’t apply.

Zero-rated and exempt lines

Set a 0% tax rate on lines that are zero-rated or exempt. Lines without tax aren’t added to the VAT total. If you need to explain why VAT isn’t charged, add a short note — for example the relevant category — in the notes field.

Known limitations

  • No currency conversion: for foreign-currency invoices, add the AED VAT amount and exchange rate manually.
  • No Arabic script in the PDF.
  • PDF only: not a structured e-invoice for submission to an accredited service provider.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how the generator works.

What does the UAE preset change?

It sets the document title to “Tax Invoice”, labels tax numbers as TRN, renames the tax to VAT, selects AED and UK-style dates, and fills 5% VAT on line items that don’t already have a rate. It applies when you start a new invoice; you can change any of it.

Does this guarantee my invoice meets FTA requirements?

No. The generator helps you include common tax invoice details, but you are responsible for making sure each invoice meets current Federal Tax Authority rules for your supply. If you’re unsure, consult a tax adviser.

Can I invoice in another currency?

You can choose another currency, but UAE rules generally expect the VAT amount to be shown in AED. The generator does not convert currencies, so add the AED VAT amount and exchange rate in the notes if you invoice in a foreign currency.

Can I add Arabic text?

Arabic text is not currently supported in the PDF output. Use English for invoice content.

Is this suitable for UAE e-invoicing?

No. The generator creates PDF invoices. The UAE is introducing mandatory electronic invoicing in phases; once it applies to your business, a PDF alone may not be sufficient. Check Ministry of Finance and FTA guidance for your timeline.
